1World 1Savior + Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Initiative: Bringing Hope and Mobility to West African Children
1World 1Savior is honored to partner with the Cerebral Palsy Initiative (CPI), a Nigerian nonprofit organization, to provide mobility aids and medical devices to children living with cerebral palsy across West Africa. This partnership aims to bring dignity, relief, and improved quality of life to some of the most vulnerable children and their caregivers.
About Our Partner: The Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Initiative (CPRI)
Founded with compassion and vision, the Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Initiative is a grassroots nonprofit based in Nigeria that advocates for children living with cerebral palsy and their families. CPRI provides access to therapy, education, medical support, and now—thanks to this partnership—mobility aids like wheelchairs.
The Heart Behind the Mission: Christiana Odjewudu-Bello Story
At the heart of CPI is Christiana Odjewudu-Bello, a resilient mother whose own child lives with cerebral palsy. Faced with the daily challenges of caregiving in a society where little support is offered, she turned her personal journey into a public mission. Her experiences inspired the founding of the Cerebral Palsy Initiative, with the hope that no other mother would feel alone, abandoned, or helpless in raising a child with disabilities.
Cultural Challenges in West Africa
In many parts of West Africa, cultural perceptions around disability, infertility, and the gender of a child still carry deep stigma. Women are often blamed for infertility, the birth of a girl child, or a child born with disabilities. As a result:
- Fathers may abandon the family, remarry, or distance themselves from caregiving responsibilities.
- Some children are completely abandoned by both parents.
- Many children with cerebral palsy are hidden indoors, denied education, social engagement, and basic mobility.
These circumstances not only isolate the child but also leave mothers and caregivers overwhelmed—physically, emotionally, and financially.
Meeting Mobility Needs with Dignity
Without access to proper wheelchairs, caregivers are often forced to carry growing children on their backs or use makeshift devices that are neither dignified nor safe. Through this partnership, 1World 1Savior and CPRI are providing purpose-built wheelchairs that:
- Ease the burden on caregivers and parents
- Uplift the dignity of the child and family
- Encourage community participation, allowing children to attend local events, outdoor activities, or even school
These mobility aids are more than devices—they are a gateway to freedom, inclusion, and hope.
